How to Get from Incheon International Airport (ICN) to Seoul Station: A Step-by-Step Guide for First-Time Visitors
1. Arriving at Incheon International Airport (ICN)
- After you land, follow the signs to Immigration and go through passport control.
- Pick up your checked luggage at the baggage claim area.
- Pass through customs (usually just a quick check unless you have items to declare).
- Once you exit the arrivals area, look for signs to Transportation or Airport Railroad (AREX).
2. Buying Your Ticket for the Airport Railroad Express (AREX)
- The fastest and most convenient way to get to Seoul Station is via the AREX Express Train or the AREX All Stop Train.
- You can buy tickets at the AREX ticket booths or at automatic ticket machines near the train platform.
- Tickets can also be purchased using T-money cards (rechargeable transportation cards) or credit cards at the machines.
- The AREX Express Train goes directly to Seoul Station without stops (approx. 43 minutes), but costs a bit more.
- The AREX All Stop Train stops at several stations and takes around 56 minutes but is cheaper.
- For first-timers, the express train is recommended for speed and convenience.
3. Finding the AREX Platform
- Follow airport signs to the Airport Railroad (AREX), usually located in the basement level (B1) of the terminal.
- There are two terminals at Incheon Airport — Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Make sure you follow the signs for your terminal’s AREX station.
- If you arrive at Terminal 2, a free shuttle train connects Terminal 2 to Terminal 1’s AREX platform.
4. Boarding the Train
- When the train arrives, check that it is the Express Train or the All Stop Train going to Seoul Station.
- Board the train; the trains are clean, safe, and have English announcements.
- Keep your ticket handy as you will need it to exit the station at Seoul.
5. Arrival at Seoul Station
- Once the train arrives at Seoul Station, follow the signs to the main exit.
- Use your AREX ticket to exit the turnstiles.
- Seoul Station is a major transportation hub — from here you can catch subway lines, buses, taxis, or even KTX high-speed trains.
6. Additional Tips for First-Time Visitors
- T-money Card: Consider buying a T-money card at convenience stores or ticket machines for easy payment on trains, buses, and taxis throughout Korea.
- Wi-Fi: Free Wi-Fi is available in the airport and on the train, but having a portable Wi-Fi device or Korean SIM card helps.
- Luggage: There are luggage storage and delivery services at the airport if you want to explore Seoul before your hotel check-in.
- Language: Most signs in the airport and train stations are in Korean and English. Staff at major counters usually speak basic English.
- Safety: Public transportation in Korea is very safe, clean, and punctual.
